Weekly Turkey Report(17-24 Sep.): President Erdoğan visits US, Turkish House opens

 Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the 76th UN General Assembly in New York.

At the UN General Assembly, He addressed important issues such as  the fight against irregular migration, climate change, and the pandemic.

He announced that The Turkish government will submit the Paris Agreement on climate change for ratification to parliament next month.

He also addressed the subject of the Syrian conflict, saying, “The International community cannot allow the Syrian crisis to continue for another 10 years.

 In his speech at Turkey Investment Conference, He touched upon the determination of  Turkey and the United States to achieve the $100 billion bilateral trade goal.

The Turkevi Center built in New York City opened its doors to the public.

 The 36-story  building is located across from the United Nations headquarters, and it houses Turkey's permanent U.N. mission and the Turkish Consulate General.

It is designed as a symbolic skyscraper that’ll reflect Turkish culture, history, and diversity.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Erdoğan said the Turkevi Center will serve for years to come as a symbol of Turkey’s diplomatic and economic success.

The United Nations secretary Antonio Guterres praised the building and Turkey’s efforts to the migrant crisis.

Aerospace and Technology Festival Teknofest kicked off with a series of surprises.

The six-day event that take place at the Atatürk Airport welcomed thousands of technology enthusiasts.

At the event, Turkey’s unmanned aerial vehicles such as Akıncı and Bayraktar TB2 and aircraft put on a show together for the first time.

 Turkey’s indigenous Automobile that visitors eagerly waited become one of the favorite vehicles of the festival.

Nobel prized Turkish scientist Aziz Sancar was the surprise guest of Teknofest. Sancar and President Erdoğan gave prizes to competition winners.

The Festival, which hosts many competitions and events, will end on Sunday.

SpaceX will launch Turkey’s first indigenous communications satellite.

Turkey started its national communication satellite project about five years ago and produced the Türksat 6A.

Among many companies’ offers and options, Space X’s Falcon 9 rocket was chosen as the best one in terms of both technical and financial aspects.

The project will make Turkey one of the 10 countries that can produce its own communications satellite.

It is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2023.

Previously, the Turksat 5A satellite was also launched by SpaceX in January 2021.

The Central Bank of Turkey is expanding a project to test digital currencies.

The Turkish central bank established a new platform to research the use of digital currencies in the country.

Replacing the existing bills with cloud-based cash is expected to make buying and selling easier and more secure.

The project involves partnership with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey for the testing processes of the potential digital Turkish lira.

Experts will determine the possible benefits of introducing a digital version of the Turkish lira for customers.

There are similar efforts underway in places like the Us, China, and India.
